Understand LSAC’s conversion rules, test your numbers, and interpret your estimated CAS GPA with examples and FAQs.
Note: This is an estimate. LSAC makes the official calculation when they process your transcripts.
LSAC converts every undergraduate course to a unified 4.0 scale so applicants from different schools are comparable. Key rules:
Courses: A (3cr), B+ (3cr), B (4cr), A− (3cr), C+ (3cr)
Courses: A (4 qtr), B− (5 qtr), C (3 qtr), P (1 qtr), NP (1 qtr)
Courses: Bio I D (3), Bio I retake B (3), Gov A− (3), Literature WF* (3), Music S (2)
For T14 schools, 3.7–3.9+. A 3.5–3.7 is competitive at many programs. Lower GPAs can be offset with a strong LSAT and compelling application materials.
Yes. LSAC includes all undergraduate work completed before your first bachelor’s degree.
Yes. Unlike many campuses, LSAC treats A+ as 4.33.
W/WP are excluded. WF counts only if your school marks it as punitive.
You can only change it with additional undergraduate coursework before LSAC processes your transcripts. Graduate courses do not affect LSAC GPA.
